Sometimes Older Is Better

Along with risk factors like high cholesterol and smoking, blood pressure stands out as an important indicator to assess your risk of heart attack and stroke. But a significant number of people who appear to be healthy according to all of these indicators still end up experiencing a major cardiovascular episode.

To calculate risk in these mystery patients, scientists have researched a flurry of new biomarkers in the hopes of finding more accurate warning signals of cardiovascular disease—C-reactive protein (CRP) is one you may have heard of.
