Fructose is a type of sugar found in foods such as fruit, explains obesity expert Louis Aronne, M.D., clinical professor at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. It is also added to sodas, juice blends, salad dressings, pasta sauce and other foods, primarily in the form of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). HFCS is about half fructose and half glucose (another type of sugar). Many of us consume far more of this type of fructose than we should. Here’s how HFCS may tip the scale.
